Joining a book club is a great way to stay informed and meet up with like-minded individuals on the quest for knowledge. Join SciArt Center Wednesday 9/17 for its inaugural Book Club discussing The Art Instinct by Denis Dutton.
Denis Dutton founded the the online publication Arts & Letters Daily and Philosophy and Literature—a scholarly journal published by Johns Hopkins University Press. He is a professor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. In The Art Instinct (2010), Dutton looks at aesthetic preference through the lens of evolutionary biology. The Art Instinct is a thought provoking account of the possible evolutionary basis of taste. Arguing that aesthetic preference is shaped by evolutionary factors, Dutton provides an alternative to contemporary aesthetic theory rooted in social construction.
