This December 4th catch The Sirens, a multimedia art installation, on the stargazing deck of Palm Spring's Ace Hotel.
"At sea once more we had to pass the Sirens, whose sweet singing lures sailors to their doom. I had stopped up the ears of my crew with wax, and I alone listened while lashed to the mast, powerless to steer toward shipwreck.”
Created by artist Kyle Simon, The Sirens is based on asteroseismology, the science of the oscillations in stars. The Sirens converts live visual telescopic data into sound, creating a soundscape of the universe above in the spirit of the ocean sirens which tempted Homer's Ulysses. By framing the universe as a sea of the unknown, Simon 's piece speaks to the questions which have spanned history across the arts and sciences - questions about our origins, our purpose, our place in the world and the universe.
Filmed and edited by Brett Simon. Voice by Christian Camargo. Featuring Benjamin Folstein.
